Hello Pups and Kittens welcome back for the hundred and seventy third time to The Groomer Next Door. This week we have an elite Veteranarian, accomplished author, actress, and all around great lady. I am so happy to announce that Dr.Barbara Royal DVM is joining us this week on the podcast.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

GUEST BIO

Barbara Royal, DVM, CVA, founder and owner of The Royal Treatment Veterinary Center, is an internationally-renowned pioneer in complementary medicine and physical rehabilitation. A passionate advocate of commonsense and cutting-edge approaches to optimal animal health, Dr. Royal provides a bridge between Western and Eastern medicine.

Dr. Royal has extensive experience in veterinary care, including zoo, marine, and wildlife animals, emergency medicine, pathology, conventional practices, nutrition, herbal remedies, physical rehabilitation techniques, and alternative treatments.  She is also an acupuncture expert for pets and exotic zoo creatures.  She is the go-to veterinarian for Oprah Winfrey.

A nationally-published author in numerous magazines and an international lecturer in her field, Dr. Royal is often featured in the media for her successful treatments of animals and groundbreaking work in veterinary medicine.  She lives in Winnetka, Illinois with her husband, two children, her cat, Arthur, and her dog, Darwin. Her first book, “The Royal Treatment:  A Natural Approach to Wildly Healthy Pets” was published September 2013.  After graduating with high honors from the University of Illinois, College of Veterinary Medicine (1995), Dr. Royal’s early career was exclusively devoted to cultivating her expertise in state-of-the-art, modern veterinary treatments.  Her work with greyhounds, who are hypersensitive to many medications, led Dr. Royal to explore the most effective modalities in ancient traditions.  She completed training in acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine from IVAS, Advanced Western & Chinese Herbal Medicine through Tufts University, and studied Animal Physical Therapy and Healing Techniques at the University of Tennessee.  Her uniquely practical and open-minded approach, skill as a diagnostician, and compassion for animals is much acclaimed: she operated on a room-sized grouper named Bubba at the Chicago Shedd Aquarium; she reconstructed a woodchuck’s de-gloved feet at the Woodstock Illinois Animal Hospital; and, at the Chicago’s Lincoln Park Zoo she became the first veterinarian in the world to perform acupuncture on a zebra.

With her multi-faceted knowledge and her individually-tailored practice, Dr. Royal provides comprehensive care for her many patients.

Her Books

The Royal Treatment: A Natural Approach to Wildly Healthy Pets

An integrative and revolutionary way to treat your animals, combining holistic and natural medicine with the best of modern science.

Dr. Barbara Royal is a passionate, dedicated, and innovative veterinarian with a unique approach to medicine. Her patients have included countless different species from German shepherds at her private practice, to baby owls in the wild, to zebras in the zoo. Her clients are the humans who live for their pets, much like she does. Her ability to lend a voice to sick or injured animals and carry out the best treatment for them is unmatched.

An expert diagnostician with a background in zoo and wildlife medicine, Dr. Royal has learned that adhering to the teachings of Western medicine is often not the best way to fully cure her patients. With the clinical experience to know when to use surgery, medications, and alternative methods, plus an observant and empathetic understanding of the evolutionary needs of her patients, she individually tailors the Royal Treatment to ensure that each pet (and owner!) lives as happily and healthfully as possible.

The knowledge she has gained from wild animals gives her valuable insight into the cat in your kitchen and the dog in your living room. Our pets have all evolved from wild species and adapted to domestic life in many ways, but their natural characteristics are genetically fixed. In order for our pets to meet their full health potential, we must be mindful of these natural nutritional, emotional, and physical needs. Applying common sense in this way, along with the support of medicine, nutrition, elements of Eastern medicine, and physical rehabilitation, fosters an animal’s natural inclination toward optimal health and immunity. There is no placebo effect in animal medicine, and Dr. Royal has seen amazing results with her integrative approach, time and time again.

A must-have for all pet owners, these pages shimmer with ingenious advice, insight, and scientific originality. But most of all, a veterinarian with heart comes through in every word. Dr. Royal empowers animal lovers to lift their pets into a realm of natural health and happiness that will be palpable from shiny coat to bouncy step.

Keirtan's Song

Keirtan grew up in a large family, poor in material wealth, but rich spiritually inside with a strong trust in God that took her on an extraodinary journey throughout her life. Astral travelling to the outer universe to seek help for her beloved earth and eventually finding "Hosanna" and channelling directly from him; when she asks him about Creation from the beginning, this is what he showed her: Keirtan was shown down a vortex and here at the base was one atom, as a person on the earth you would not be able to see this with the naked eye, Here in the presence of "Hosanna" anything is possible. In the universe there are millions upon millions of atomsThe energy vortex heated the atom to a trillion degree's, it exploded and a white light filled the vortex, the vortex expanded to light the dark that sat on its own from the beginning, "Day Light" was born.Atoms have always been in the whole of the universe that is "Hosanna" collectively, as the atoms come together "Hosanna's" thought expanded and so on.The Earth was developed from outer space with atoms that expanded over millions of years."Hosanna" has through his own expansion individualised him self and that expansion individualised us."All Life is expansion of Hosanna."

DOG FOOD RECALL ALERT!!
Party Animal Dog Food Recall of April 2017

April 17, 2017 — Party Animal, Inc. has announced it is recalling specific lots of two varieties of its Cocolicious canned dog foods because they have each tested positive for the euthanasia drug, pentobarbital.
What’s Being Recalled?

The following products are affected by the recall:

Cocolicious Beef and Turkey
Size: 12 ounce cans
Lot Number: 0136E15204 04
Best By Date: July 2019

Cocolicious Chicken and Beef
Size: 12 ounce cans
Lot Number: 0134E15 237 13
Best By Date: August 2019

What Caused the Recall?

According to a statement posted on the company’s website and its Facebook page:

The safety of pets is and always will be our first priority. We sincerely regret the reports of the discomfort experienced by the pet who consumed this food.

As pet parents ourselves, we take this matter seriously.

On April 13, a retailer in Texas notified us that their customer had presented samples of our Cocolicious Beef and Turkey Lot #0136E15204 04 and Cocolicious Chicken and Beef Lot #0134E15 237 13 to a testing lab, and that the results had tested positive for pentobarbital.

We have requested those results.

When we were notified, we immediately tracked the lot numbers of the food in question and determined that the food had been manufactured and distributed in 2015.

We then contacted the two probable retailers that had sold the customer the food and asked them to isolate all remaining cans from these lots.

We also requested that the retailers send all of the cans from those lots to us so that we can forward them on to an accredited independent laboratory for independent testing.

We expect to receive the receive the results in 7 to 10 days.

We first saw the formal report from the lab at Texas A&M regarding the customer’s samples, today, April 17.

Out of an abundance of caution, we are retrieving the remainder of these two lots nationwide.

We are working with our distributors and retailers to determine if any additional beef-flavored products manufactured during this 2015 production period remain on shelves and, if so, to retrieve them from shelves, immediately, as well.

What to Do?

Consumers with questions may contact the company by phone at 855-727-8926 or by email at info@partyanimalpetfood.com.

Episode 171 “MURRAY BURKE EDMONTON POLICE SERVICES”

April 16, 2017

Hello Pups and Kittens and let me be the first to wish you a Happy Easter. This week we have our very 1st International Edpisode. I'm so happy to introduce our guest this week. He's a Superhero, but doesn't wear a cape. But he has a shield and an amazing sidekick. Let me introduce you to "CST. MURRAY BURKE of the Edmonton Police Services" to this weeks podcast. Here's some amazing facts about the Edmonton Police Services. The Edmonton Police Service Canine Unit was officially formed in 1967 by Val Vallevand. Presently there are 14 handler and dog teams and two Sergeants who are stationed at one of the finest kennel facilities in North America. The 14 dogs currently in the unit are all general purpose police dogs, of which three are cross trained for narcotic detection.

Members of the Canine Unit provide the citizens of Edmonton with 24 hours a day, seven days a week service. The teams respond to calls that involve tracking, criminal apprehension, area / building searches, evidence searches and narcotic / explosive detection.

The Edmonton Police Service Canine Unit has a long and proud history with members and their dedicated partners committed to taking a “Bite out of Crime” in Edmonton. You can read about the unit's history in our Legacy of Heroes: Day of the Dog Squad Comic.

To become a member of the Canine Unit, Constables must have a minimum of five years on the job. During that time Constables who have an interest in becoming a dog handler begin training with the unit on their time off. They train as quarries, or what you might call potential bad guys.

To gain entry into the unit, members must take a Puppy Imprinter course and then apply to be a puppy handler. If accepted, an eight week old puppy is assigned to them. While raising this puppy, the member still works their regular duties at their assigned job.  Depending on vacancies, the member may enter the Dog Master course and begin working in the Canine unit once the puppy reaches 18 - 24 months of age.

They learn to lay tracks, take dog bites and hide in the most difficult and uncomfortable places. Quarries with enough seniority may then apply to be puppy holders of potential police service dogs. Due to the high standards set within the unit, only the most qualified and dedicated applicants and dogs are accepted. When the puppy reaches one to one and a half years old, the dog and handler enter into an extensive training period.

During training, the teams learn to become proficient in the areas of tracking, criminal apprehension, searching, obedience and agility.  Presently, Police Service Dogs and their handlers can remain in the unit for up to seven years, which are considered the most productive years of a police dogs life. The primary function of the Canine Unit is to provide support to the Patrol Officers on the street. The teams respond to any or all crimes in progress where suspects are fleeing on foot or possibly hiding. The unit has expanded its services and also uses trained Narcotic Detection and Explosive Detection dogs.

What do an Olympic athlete, the Kings of England, and a World War One flying ace, have in common?

They all played a role in the history of the Edmonton Police Service.

Now, the EPS is telling their stories in Legacy of Heroes, a digital comic book available on the Service’s website.

“Each issue is based on a true story taken from our archives,” says EPS Digital Media Unit supervisor, Michael James.

“Legacy of Heroes is a way for us to share stories of heroism with the community at large,” James says.  “And who doesn’t like comic books?”

Printed copies are also available through EPS Divisional Stations and Police Information Check Section (14315 – 118 Avenue Nexus Business Park).

Episode 170 “FOLLOW-UP ON APOLLO PEAK WINES”

April 8, 2017

Hello Pups and Kittens and welcome back for the 170th time to The Groomer Next Door podcast. This week we're doing something we've NEVER done before. But I'm so happy for this company and wanted to give everyone an update. Apollo Peak Wines was on the podcast back on episode 157, and on Friday April 7th, 2017 Brandon Zavala was on ABC hit tv show "Shark Tank".

RECAP

First into the tank is Brandon Zavala of Apollo Peak, seeking $100,000 for 10 percent equity.Apollo Peak allows pet parents to share a drink with their furry friend. Their pet-friendly wines are non-alcoholic, contain organic herbs and are made from fresh beets. They offer both dog and cat beverages, which include names such as The White Kittendel, The Pinot Meow, The Meowgarita, TheCharDOGnay and The Doggy Mary. Prices range from $4.95 to $12.95. According to their website, its “creation started like any other radical idea…a product designed to help bridge the social divide between humans and their pets.”

Kevin O’Leary questions why the cat is not drinking its wine and Robert O’Leary questions whether it’s more of a gimmick. He assures the sharks that they have since moved on from a gimmick and have since expanded to dog beverages. In the last three months, they have done $192,000 in sales. He saw pet beverages as a unique niche.

O’Leary, the wine guy, is worried about the price. Mark Cuban says he does not want to be in the pet beverage industry and goes out, followed by Lori Greiner. Robert Herjavec likes the idea but doesn’t see it as sustainable, so goes out. O’Leary points out that cats can be very finicky but offers $100,000 for 33.3 percent. Daymond John then jumps in with an offer of $100,000 for 25 percent. He counters 15 percent for either O’Leary or John, and they both meet at 20 percent. He accepts O’Leary’s offer.
